Much value can only be given to what is inside the plastic vials and bags by someone who has been intensively trained. With such specimens originating from the Larsen Ice Shelf in Antarctica the scientists will truly be kept busy for long. There are a lot of things to learn from mud as a college senior said. This college senior was one of a handful of students and faculty from one college and one university who recently spent a month in Antarctica on an expedition funded by the National Science Foundation. The schools have been participating in the research cruises for over a decade now.

For the group, a research vessel was used and they departed from Punta Arenas Chile in early February. They headed off to a relatively new destination which was east of the Antarctic Peninsula, the Larsen Ice Shelf. Such a location has yet to be explored before they arrived. Using sonar to measure the depth of the ocean, the boat moved slowly. From the deck students and other researchers collected water and sediment samples and gathered video footage. About a decade is necessary in analyzing these samples. You will find that further information on antarctic travel is on that site.

Considering modern global warming, they will be evaluating mud from its water content to the overall composition to make a possible correlation. The students agree that this is a once in a lifetime trip. It gives you a taste of what it’s really like said this student. The path to graduate school for this student, a native of Scotland, involves global warming. It is during the next year when one student who agrees to spend the rest of her life on a ship will be studying at the school of Oceanography in one university.

Intense weather conditions in the Southern Hemisphere were overcome by these people. It’s like Upstate New York really. Sunrise as early as 430 am setting around 930 pm is more intense than having cold days.Looking out the window was not as easy when the sun was so bright. Civilization was lacking, but science was happening 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The other way around or midnight to noon were shift options for a student. The usual off day routines for students were watching movies in the group lounge or sleeping on the bunk beds.

But the students had some regulations to abide by. Informing seniors of any serious activity is a must. From checking out a newly discovered surface volcano to an emperor penguin became the task for a senior student. But this Dryden native says that this was the interesting bit. You don’t want to miss something. One of her best experiences here involved a trip to Vega Island. To be in a place where only 10 other people have been to is rather remarkable, she says. To get a better understanding of antarctica vacations, visit their website.

Resulting in five weeks of missed classes for the students was the trip.Because they had busy schedules not to mention the environmental issues that come with the vessel they had limited capabilities to accomplish their schoolwork. When their ship is always on the go they face more difficulty. They were not able to contact the people back home as much. As a result of close quarters and having fewer distractions the students and faculty were actually brought together. From a student came the comment of having no escape. It’s a desolate area, an extreme environment, you become really close.

As they prepared the specimens of mud and rocks they placed these in coolers for their trip back to the United States and each had documents explaining their source for the customs officials. A student also carried five film rolls and 323 digital pictures. Experiencing the surroundings was what another student who participated in last year’s exploration chose to do. You can’t capture every moment she said. On occasion, it is a better option to understand your environment.

Its ease of accessibility has ensured that France is still one of the most frequented and popular holiday home destinations for UK buyers and the launch of a new Eurostar service this winter from London and the Alps is sure to increase demand further says French property consultants.

The service commencing from December 19th 2010 will allow you to travel direct from St Pancras and Ashford International to Moutiers, Aime-La-Plagne and Bourg St Maurice in the center of the Alps. The journey will take only 7 hours, travelling along beautiful landscapes with returns fares costing around £149 per person return.

Charlie Williams, French leaseback property consultant at Experience International and keen Alpine skier stated,

“The French Alps do and always will provide the best skiing in Europe in my opinion. Ski property with quick and easy access from the UK is in very high demand and the news that people can go from London to the Alps in 7 hours is very good news for French ski property owners; I totally expect demand and also property prices to rise.”

There has been a notable rise in the number of people opting to travel to France by train as opposed to flying with Eurostar reporting a 6% rise in passenger numbers through out the first half of 2010. Environmental concerns combined with the results of the volcanic ash cloud earlier in the year and the rising trend of people choosing to travel by train rather than short-haul flights is believed to have driven this growth.

One resort tipped by expert Charlie Williams of Experience International as a hotspot for the coming ski season is Sainte-Foy-en-Tarentaise. Situated only 15 minutes distance from the train station at Bourg St Maurice and 15 minutes from both Val d’lsere & Les Arcs, this beautiful unspoiled resort has long been the preserve of experienced guides bringing their clients over from nearby Val d’Isere to enjoy the renowned powder and off-piste skiing available.

Williams enthuses,

“Due to some careful re-development this Savoyard town has emerged as a luxury quiet retreat for families and groups alike. Prices have risen by 7.5% over 2009 and in response to demand for quality accommodation a prestigious developer have released La Chapelle, a ski-in ski-out property with a wealth of facilities and breathtaking views. Some will also be glad to know that this particular French ski property is on the leaseback system with 100% finance.”

With a freehold leaseback property, owners will receive guaranteed index linked rental incomes for 18 years as well as personal usage including an extra 4 months through out the summer. The 1st phase is nearly sold out but you can invest in the soon to be released 2nd phase of 4* 1 – 4 bedroom luxury properties from £185,000 with furniture, ski locker, storage & underground parking included.

For more information about the wide range of leaseback properties easily accessible by the new Eurostar Alps service contact the experts at Experience International on + 44 (0) 207 321 5858 or go to Experience-international.com.

Stag parties have always been a symbol of leaving bachelorhood and entering married life. Formerly, this included several friends getting together in a bar or someone’s apartment and possibly ending the evening at a strip club. This celebration ritual soon became dull in the minds of the party-goers. One night events began to quickly evolve into weekend getaways relative to mini-holidays. Groups travel to destinations around the world, taking part in a variety of daytime and evening activities.

The European continent has become a favorite destination for stag weekends. Individuals find this destination exotic and relaxing. This short holiday may seem far away, but is easily accessible and has a much different atmosphere from Britain. According to the group’s interests, there are many destinations to enjoy. Warsaw, Barcelona, Tallinn and Ireland all offer exciting weekend ideas that everyone in your party will enjoy. Each specializes in original brewed ales, authentic foods, and highly recommended tourist attractions. A variety of night spots are offered that never seem to close.

When planning your stag weekend, do not spend hours online attempting to fill every minute of a fun filled trip. Hassles of booking flights with transfers and finding hotel rooms in close proximity to places of interest are difficult. There are a number of travel businesses in Europe that can take away the aggravation. Explain what ideas your group may have for an unforgettable weekend and let them do the planning for you. They will customize a mini-holiday according to the group’s interests and assure an enjoyable time for all.

Theme trips are increasing in popularity for stag weekends. Itineraries may include city tours, sports packages, golf, paintball, go-karting, and white water rafting. Restaurants according to taste requests are reserved for the party and may include entertainment. The nightlife is active 24/7 in Europe and a guide can come along to insure you get the most out of each scene. Flights are arranged with shuttle service to any of your chosen destinations. Accommodations will be centralized to your arranged activities with arrangements for everyone within the party.

You will be picked up at the airport and transported to a reserved hotel, with return service waiting at the end of your weekend. The best man for the groom-to-be has a responsibility that goes beyond being present at the wedding or giving a toast at the reception; it is your job to insure the stag gets an unforgettable weekend out with his friends for that last glimpse of bachelor life. Customize the occasion to fit everyone’s interests and make it a memorable time.

Along with other tourist attractions, there is a wide range of ancient villages and medieval sites on Rhodes Island. The rich history of the island has become a major source of tourist’s attraction. The best medieval sites to visit on Rhodes Island are as under.

Acropolis of Lindos:

Being an important archaeological place, the Acropolis of Lindos is an enthralling place, which can be accessed 55km from the city of Rhodes . Tourists are attracted towards the archaeological monuments extended outside and around the acropolis i.e. the theatre, four-portico building, Boukopion, the tomb of Kleoboulos, the Archokrateion, the church of the Panayia, Ayios Georgios Chostos, Ayios Georgios Pachymachiotis, Ayios Menas and Ayios Demetrios.

Acropolis of Rhodes:

One can find the famous Acropolis of Rhodes on the top of Monte Smith Hill. Someone can find some relics of it, and from this someone might get a idea of the original splendor. Being in town, the acropolis of Rhodes is yet a worth seeing spot during Rhodes holidays.

The Aktaion Building. Being located in the Rhodes Old Town, it is a two-storey infrastructure having flat roof along with an arcade that overlooks the road through the sea. In typical local isodomic masonry the walls are build. The internal beauty of the structure is amazing, depicted from its infrastructure. A coffee and pastry shop you will find today in this building.

The Ancient Ialysos:

Spanning the northern area of Rhodes, Ialysos is situated at a distance of 13 kilometers from the city of Rhodes. This place was inhabited in the medieval times. You can see the relics of the Minoan community that are found at Trianda. Must see things at this site include the temple of Athena Polias, Doric fountain-house, church of the knights, Byzantine fortifications, ruins of the katholikon of a Byzantine monastery, medieval monastery and single cell chapel of Ayios Georgios Chostos. Furthermore, there are Mycenaean cemeteries that can be seen in the nearby Makria-Vounara and Moschou-Vounara hills.

Ancient Kamiros:

The Ancient Kamiros is situated nearby cape of Agios Minas – on the Rhodes north-western seashore. It was a powrful place and one of the three big cities of the Island of Rhodes. Do not forget to visit this place if you want to enjoy your holidays in Rhodes to the best.

The Archaeological Museum of Rhodes:

The Archaeological Museum is located in the ancient building of the Knights’ Hospital. Being an in-town attraction, it is a two-storey infrastructure having an in-house courtyard with four sides and entrances. The exhibits shown at the museum attracts a large number of tourists.

The Palace of the Governor:

The Palace of the Governor is one of the most significant infrastructures established on Rhodes Island, during the Italian domination. This palace is a combination of different single architectural styles. The arrangement of this palace greatly resembles the Duces Palace of Venice.

Some other historical sites you can visit during your Rhodes holidays are the Municipal Gallery, National Theatre, Rhodes Astike School, Rhodes Old Town, Rhodes Post Office and the St. Catherine Hospice. Rhodes Island is a best destination for archaeologists, history lovers and every vacationer who want to uncover its historic majesty.

Old Town Rhodes Hotels offers great Rhodes Vacations packages by providing quality services, home-like ambience, tasty cuisines and comfy accommodation to make you spend best time on Island Rhodes

Even among the extremely well-traveled individuals, Antarctica is a mysterious, abstract place. More abstract concept than actual destination, people rarely think of this spot when they begin planning an excursion. The few developed science facilities are deployed into a huge wilderness that is cold and dark.Despite that conceptualization, Antarctica is a unique spot. This is a land in which all of the world’s nations have agreed to outlaw war and weaponry.

It is a land that still remains unexplored and obscure for the most part, even though it was discovered by seal hunters early in the 1800s.The continent covers as much territory as both the United States and Mexico. An enormous icecap covers ninety-eight percent of the continent.Antarctica has untold and undiscovered resources and this makes the continent extremely unusual as compared to any other.Further resources about antarctica cruise adventures are located there.

Experts believe that there are many minerals deep within the continent itself underneath the frozen icecap, as well as the potential for offshore oil sources and swarms of krill that swim in its waters.Platitude is among the one of a kind characteristics of Antarctica. Its peace has been unbroken for decades now, and it is hoped that the political unrest in the rest of the world won’t disturb the tranquility of this quiet land.

Between the 1920s and the 1940s, it was a continent that saw competition between various nations.A majority of the governments who were sending explorers into Antarctica eventually reached the conclusion that battling for resources in the dark, cold, and tempestuous oceans was simply too high of a price to pay.Military actions in Antarctica would be very expensive and difficult in Antarctica’s hostile environment. The signing of the Antarctic Treaty, in 1959, brought a formal resolution of peace.

While brief, and Antarctic Treaty was agreed upon by a dozen different nations, all of whom attended for the 1957-1958 International Geophysical Year.It was during the International Geophysical Year (IGY) that these twelve nations learned to coexist in Antarctica for scientific research purposes. These research excursions serve the global community. Here is further info on adventure antarctica cruises.

Included in the treaty is the demilitarization of the entire continent. The only reason a military force or army can be deployed to Antarctica would be to aid scientific exploration. The presence of radioactive waste and other materials, the explosion of atomic bombs and any military activities are forbidden. In addition, the Antarctic Treaty provides for unilateral on-site inspection, the only arms control treaty in existence which contains such language.Scientific expeditions are permitted to travel to any section of the continent, such that, even with present unresolved territorial claims, there is no prohibition of anyone traveling to any portion of the continent or anywhere in the offshore waters.

To this point, the United Nations has had no direct involvement in Antarctica. The twelve countries who signed the treaty would rather the UN not become involved. These nations think they have developed a wonderful system to govern such things as protection of the environment, scientific exploration, and the sometimes divisive topic of resource management.

There was a time the world was concerned that the continent of Antarctica would become nothing more than a ping pong ball in a game between the developing world and the rich, industrial nations. However, there seems to be a very different scenario taking place.Other countries have expressed tremendous interest in signing onto The Antarctic Treaty. India, China, and some countries in the Latin Bloc have all requested permission to tap in.

In the very recent past some of the Latin countries have joined the treaty as “acceding powers.”These countries, who don’t conduct scientific activities on the continent, have agreed to follow the terms spelled out by the treaty, but cannot vote. Now, these growing nations are part of this important treaty, rather than posing a potential threat to it.
